Pyroscaphe(2015-2016)
As a sophomore, I was one of two captains of the Rice Concrete Canoe Team. The team not only designed and built a canoe out of concrete, but also designed and built a custom, 26’-long CNC router to shape the canoe after the concrete was poured. At the end of the year, the team presented on and raced the canoe against 12 other schools at the yearly Texas-Section ASCE Student Symposium.
As a captain for the team, I was responsible for organizing meetings, raising funds for the team, purchasing supplies, and writing the technical report at the end of the year. I also organized the trip from Houston, TX to Lubbock, TX where we presented on and raced the canoe. Also as part of the student symposium, I wrote an 8-page paper on the engineering ethics which I presented on at the symposium.
The team finished 9th out of 13 schools in the Texas-Mexico Region.
The design paper can be viewed here: Pyroscaphe Design Paper.
I placed 2nd out of 13 contestants for my ethics paper.
That paper can be read here: Mead Paper.
